Shot on location in Glenlyon, ‘Kangaroo Creek’ depicts bushranger Andrew George Scott (1842-1880), aka Captain Moonlite. The photograph is from a series of vignettes, collectively titled ‘Moonlite makes Camp’, which explore the outlaw’s escapades while on the run following his escape from Ballarat Gaol in 1872. Based on the Captain Moonlite’s life, this work proposes a playful historical narrative that is only as truthful as I, the queer storyteller, want it to be.

Martin John Lee is a visual artist, based in Castlemaine, on Djaara Country.
