Castlemaine Fringe is lots of things to lots of different people. For some it's music, dance, theatre, for others film and fun but we hope that for everyone it's connection, community and celebration!

We are opening up the visual direction for the 2025 Castlemaine Fringe Festival to the local community.


What is Castlemaine Fringe to you?

Be you a professional graphic artist, doodler, designer or creative we invite you to put forward an artwork/illustration/design in our not-inaugural-but-hasn't-been-done-for-ages poster design competition. The winning artwork will be used to promote Castlemaine Fringe 2025.


First prize is $500* and free artist registration to present an exhibition of your work in the festival.

*Inclusive of reproduction rights

The competition is free to enter, however we would appreciate artists support by also becoming a Castlemaine Fringe member here.

Entry deadline:  28th July 2024

Size: A3 (297 x 420)

Format: Hi-res Jpeg

Style: Freehand illustration, painting, collage, mixed media or computer generated graphic

Submission: One entry per person. All participating artists must reside in the Mount Alexander Shire.

Artwork must be original and artists must agree to the terms and conditions below.

All entries will be viewed and judged by a panel of 5 persons that includes members of the Castlemaine Fringe Comms team, local artists and Fringe stakeholders.





terms and Conditions

By completing and submitting an Entry Form below to the Castlemaine Fringe Poster Design Competition each participating artist agrees to the following terms and conditions of entry:

  1. The artwork should reflect the theme Castlemaine Fringe Is…

  2. The artist may submit only one artwork (entry)

  3. All participating artists must reside in the Mount Alexander Shire 

  4. All entries will be viewed and judged by a panel of 5 persons that includes members of the Castlemaine Fringe Comms team, local artists and Fringe stakeholders

  5. The artist acknowledges and agrees that their artwork may be copied or reproduced for the purposes of judging the competition

  6. All participating artists acknowledge that:
    - the artwork submitted is an original work;
    - the artwork submitted has not received a major prize before; and
    - the artwork is not licensed or otherwise encumbered in any way that may be inconsistent with these terms and conditions.

  7. If a participating artist incorporates or substantially reproduces any material in their entry that is subject to third party rights, they must provide evidence that they have consent necessary to use that third party intellectual property

  8. Where a participating artist is under the age of 18, the artist’s adult parent / guardian must complete the Entry Form by stating their own name on behalf of the name of the artist to indicate their agreement with these terms and conditions on behalf of the artist

  9. Artwork should be submitted in JPEG format via the Castlemaine Fringe website

  10. A total prize of $500 (including GST), including reproduction rights will be payable to the winning artist or group of artists

  11. Competition judges decision will be final and absolute

  12. No correspondence about the judges’ decision will be entered into

  13. Property rights in all submissions, including the winning artwork, will remain with the artist or entrant except as provided by these conditions

  14. By submitting a completed Entry Form, submitting an artwork and accepting the award offer, the winning artist of the Competition grants Castlemaine Fringe a permanent, royalty-free, worldwide, irrevocable, ongoing, exclusive licence to use, reproduce, communicate, broadcast, publish, distribute, adapt, and modify the winning artwork for any purpose specified in these terms and condition

  15. Use of the winning artwork is limited to the following purposes, and anything incidental to such purposes:
    - being used as the cover of the Castlemaine Fringe Festival Program 2025
    - being used as part of images in Castlemaine Fringe social media (e.g. Facebook)
    - being used in the Castlemaine Fringe theming (e.g. projection, screens, staging etc.)
    - being used in Castlemaine Fringe promotional posters and event flyers
    - being displayed in a public place to promote Castlemaine Fringe (e.g. offices, libraries, schools, public transport, shopping centres etc.)

  16. Late entries will not be accepted, all entries must be received by 11.59pm 28th July 2024

  17. If, for any reason, the competition is not able to be run as planned, Castlemaine Fringe may cancel the competition without liability to any entrant, or any other person.
