Not enough old
trees and fallen logs with habitat hollows to nest in. So much paper
shredded in offices, newspapers left on seats at stations. What if
birds and possums used it to build nests?
Local newspapers, letters pages,
election leaflets, petitions, complaints and other printed paper matter
is shredded and sculpted into nest hollows for arboreal mammals. Tuans
(Brush Tailed Phascogale), possums, kookaburras, parrots, lorikeets,
kingfishers, owls and microbats are some of the species that use tree
hollows for nesting.
Bound with wire, string and
beeswax, and hung under the eaves in various locations around the town
centre of Castlemaine.
